Administrative Services > Grants & Development
The Administrative Core leadership routinely monitors postings of RFAs from NIH and similar funding opportunities. Although such information comes across the “desks” (real or electronic) of many program scientists, the PSC can be essential in seeing that applications are actually made by:
(1) identifying appropriate program scientists for specific applications (e.g., Wolpin and Todd, Furstenberg and Preston, for a policy initiative by the Smith-Richardson Foundation);
(2) putting together groups of PSC program scientists for joint projects (Watkins, Kohler and many others, chiefly from Economics, for an R24 on AIDS in Africa; Berhman and others for a Hewlett Foundation evaluation initiative);
(3) providing PSC personnel for projects initiated by others (Elo and Smith as demographers on the local National Children’s Study vanguard site, on a grant to CHOP, under D. Schwarz and J Culhane; Soldo, Kohler, Behrman, and Smith as participants on an NIH/Fogarty application from the N. Nathanson in the School of Medicine (SoM); and
(4) providing reassurance regarding non-scientific services and processing of applications.
This includes outreach training in electronic submissions, simple access to background information (see Information services, below), and mentoring new investigators in compiling administrative components of applications.
