Adolescent Problem Behavior

I am conducting research with Frank Furstenberg on adolescent problem behavior. We are assessing the impact of childhood family life on youth crime and incarceration. Our study is longitudinal and focuses on disadvantages urban minorities. We are using interview and survey data from the Baltimore study, and for comparison we are also analyzing data from a nationally representative panel study, The National Longitudinal Study of Youth. We are measuring the influence of many different family background factors, including growing up with a teenage mother, single mother, stepfather, grandparents and foster care. We will also take into account poverty, family violence and other factors related to crime.

I am writing an article on "the Demography of Drug Use and Youth Crime." The study is a longitudinal analysis of adolescents and young adults in the U.S. during the eighties and nineties. It identifies patterns in drug use and youth crime, and reveals the demographic characterizations of the groups who are most likely to be involved with these problems.
