Library & Information Services > Reference & Research Services

  • Data requests and searching: Information Services staff can assist researchers with locating data relevant to their research, which may include, performing searches for data sets, variables and documentation.

  • Citation verification: We can provide assistance with locating complete citations for items where missing bibliographic information is not available or known. In addition, if you are trying to locate a research document and cannot recall the details we can assist with locating the details and the item.

  • Literature Searching: Library staff can perform electronic searches for literature on specific topics as well as in-depth literature searches to survey the literature on broad and interdisciplinary topics as requested.

  • Current Awareness Services: Table-of-Contents Alerting Service: As a service to PSC research associates, visitors, and post-docs, the Demography Library offers a Table of Contents Alerting Service. The TOC service alerts subscribers to new journal issues by delivering an electronic copy of the table of contents. The e-mail messages are not intended to deliver full-text access to all or any of the journals; they are intended to alert researchers to new issues of journals that are available. Researchers may simply reply to the message to request a full-text copy of an article. You may also want to take a look Penn Alerts, which is a service offered by the Penn Libraries and it allows you to manage your own subscriptions centrally.

  • Assistance with special research projects and hiring student workers: If you have special research projects and need additional assistance with locating research material, organizing information or documents, or other similar types of services please contact Information Services staff for assistance. In some cases additional staff is required to carry out the work for the project and we may be able to help with hiring a student worker.
