Preliminary Proposal to Develop Norms for Cognitive Testing in Mexico

Aims:

To validate the Cross-cultural Dementia Screen (CCDS) in a clinic in Mexico City and to provide population norms for the CCDS using data form the Mexican Health and Aging Survey(MHAS).

End-life-treatment Choices and Spousal Impoverishment

Aims:

To analyze both the expressed preference and the revealed preference in spouses' treatment decisions prior to death.

Demographic and Epidemiological Transition: The Mexico Case

Principal Investigator(s): Soldo, Beth J. and Wong, Rebecca

Aims:

To strengthen the knowledge and know-how surrounding surveys in and outside Mexico on health spending; to design and organize a session on surveys and data in the international conference on Innovations in Health Financing; to fund research work and develop ongoing collaboration between the Mexican Health Foundation and researchers in the NIA-funded Mexican Health and Aging Survey(MHAS).

Social Security and Medicare data to the NRC/NAS Twin Registry

Aims:

Health Spending, Health System Finance, and Health Sector Reform in the Context of conducting research on aging in the U.S. utilizing the "twins experiment" - including aspects such as (i) health disparities, (ii) interrelations between health, work and retirement, (iii) genetics behavior and the social environment, (iv) the relations to income and saving to health and/or retirement.

Living Arrangements of the Elderly Population in Africa in the Era of HIV/AIDS

Aims:

To research health and mortality patterns of several African populations before the HIV/AIDS epidemic and the changing household structures of the population.

Microsimulation of HIV Transmission Across the Life Cycle in sub-Saharan Africa

Aims:

To develop a microsimulation model to examine the dynamics of HIV transmission across the life course in sub-Saharan African countries with relatively high levels of HIV.

To use Spanish language standardized assessment methods to evaluate the validly that the onset of dementia symptoms in patients with Alzheimer's disease begins earlier in Latino subjects that in non-Latino whites.
