<p>Dr. Curran is&nbsp;the Director of the Center for Studies in Demography &amp; Ecology. She is a Professor of International Studies &amp; Sociology. Dr. Curran is also appointed in the Evans School of Public Policy &amp; Governance and an Adjunct Professor of Global Health, affiliate faculty of the Center for Global Studies and the Center for Southeast Asian Studies. She holds degrees from the University of Michigan (B.S., Natural Resource Management), North Carolina State University (M.S., Sociology and Economics), and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Ph.D., Sociology).&nbsp;&nbsp; She researchs gender, migration, and environment in developing countries. Current projects include social change and migration, climate change and migration, and disaster disparities. She has authored work that appears in Demography, Population and Development Review, Social Science Research, Teaching Sociology, Journal of International Women’s Studies, and Journal of Marriage and the Family. She recently gave a talk at the Winds of Change conference in Portland, about our research addressing disasters and population change.&nbsp; Current grants for which Dr. Curran is a PI include an NICHD-R24 Population Research Infrastructure grant and a Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation grant to study family planning progress. She is the most recent PI of a NICHD-T32 Demographic Training Program, a USAID GDA Cooperative Agreement for capacity building in Myanmar (Information Strategies for Societies in Transition), a US Department of Education National Resource Center grant for international studies (Title VI), and a US Department of Education grant for Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) for less commonly taught languages.</p>
