Speaker Biographies

<p>Calvin Zimmermann is a second year Ph.D. student and William Fontaine fellow of sociology at the University of Pennsylvania. Calvin grew up on the west side of Chicago, Illinois. He attended Southern Illinois University, Carbondale where he was a McNair Scholar and received his B.A. in sociology. Calvin's research interests are in sociology of education, intersectionality, and children and youth. His research focuses on how children’s early school experiences vary by race, class, and gender. In addition to his academic work, he is also a mentor for the Center of Africana studies’ Summer Institute for Pre-Freshmen.</p>
