<p>Michael Lachanski is a doctoral candidate in demography at Penn's Population Studies Center. He is interested in the application of data science, computational methods, and modern econometrics to problems in economic demography, broadly considered. Within demography, he is interested in fertility, migration, households, and spatial characteristics of human settlements. He has ongoing projects in the social psychology of pandemics, immigration, and outgroup aversion, applied statistical text analysis of job postings data, and the demographic and economic determinants of crime in the United States. He holds an MPA from Princeton University's School of Public and International Affairs, where he focused on labor, urban, and education policy. He also has interests in housing and financial markets. He previously worked at the U.S. Census, Commerce Department, and the Department of Transportation as a&nbsp;SINSI Fellow. He has written on public policy for a variety of outlets.</p> <p> </p>
