Description
“Tell us about your teaching” is a question many candidates on the academic job market will hear. Ian Petrie, Senior Associate Director, Center for Teaching and Learning will discuss ways to answer this question and strategies for talking about your teaching during interviews with enthusiasm and thoughtfulness. In this session, attendees will prepare for the sorts of questions about teaching they might face in screening interviews and practice answering them with colleagues. Interviews with a variety of types of institutions and across different fields will be considered. IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ: Activate your Handshake account to keep receiving emails from Career Services (click here if you have already made the switch to Handshake and want to unsubscribe from this listserv). You have been receiving emails from Career Services because you were signed-up to one of our listservs. We will no longer be using these listservs starting in mid-October, and we encourage you to take advantage of our new CareerMail options through “Handshake” in order to receive information from us about career exploration, online career resources, workshops, programs, panel discussions, funding opportunities, networking events, internships, jobs, career fairs, and more! To hear from us you need to activate your “Handshake” account and provide information about what types of careers fields and industries you want to hear more about. This will help us to provide you with targeted information relevant to your career goals through our new Handshake system. Here’s what you need to do:
STEP 1:
Activate your Handshake account if you haven’t done so already. You can find information for activating your account here: www.vpul.upenn.edu/careerservices/handshake. After activating it, you will be able to access Handshake by visiting https://upenn.joinhandshake.com, clicking on the blue box (the “University of Pennsylvania sign-on” option), and entering your PennKey and password. If you have any trouble activating your Handshake account or getting started, give us a call at 215 898 7530. You will also be able to use Handshake to schedule appointments with career advisors at Career Services.
STEP 2:
As part of the process of activating your account, you may be requested to complete your “Career Interests”, and this is critical part of the process to help us communicate with you effectively. If you have already activated your account (to use Handshake for career advisor appointment scheduling, for example), then you can get back to the career interests section by clicking on your name in the top right corner of the screen when you have logged-in to Handshake, and selecting “Career Interests”. You can see screenshots of what this looks like here: www.vpul.upenn.edu/careerservices/gradstud/careermail.php. You can select any of the options that interest you, and come back at any time to deselect options that you no longer want to receive information about. The more you fill out, the easier it is for us to send you information that will be helpful to you. You won’t receive the same email multiple times by selecting multiple options. Please make sure you have set up your account so that you can continue to hear from us.
