<p>Onome Henry Osokpo, PhD, MSc., MSN, RN is a Provost Postdoctoral Fellow and a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the NewCourtland Center for Transitions and Health in the School of Nursing. Dr. Osokpo’s program of research examines the individual, cultural, social and structural factors that affect self-care behaviors, and access to and use of health care services in the U.S. He seeks to develop culturally concordant interventions that&nbsp;integrate behavioral economics and culturally-tailored strategies to improve the lives of persons with chronic illness and to advance health equity among vulnerable and marginalized populations. Specifically, his work explores the social determinants of health—key factors that influence health and well-being, health care access and health outcomes. Dr. Osokpo will also explore how these factors influence outcomes in an on-going national, multisite clinical trial [MIRROR-TCM] with his mentor, Dr. Mary Naylor.</p><p>Dr. Osokpo holds a PhD from University of Pennsylvania where he was a Kass Scholar, NewCourtland Center for Transitions and Health, a Jonas Nursing Scholar, and a Fontaine Society Fellow. His dissertation focused on exploring socio-cultural factors influencing self-care among African immigrants living with chronic illness in the United States. He received his MSN in the Adult and Gerontology Nurse Practitioner Program from University of Pennsylvania, and his BSN from Stony Brook University. His degrees prior to nursing comprise of a BSc. in Chemistry Education and a MSc. in Analytical Chemistry.</p>
