Sun Kyoung Lee received her Ph.D. in Economics from Columbia University in 2019. After a postdoctoral associate position at the Economic Growth Center and the Department of Economics at Yale University, Sun joined Survey Research Center and the Stone Center for Inequality Dynamics (CID) at the University of Michigan as a Research Assistant Professor starting Fall 2022.

 Sun engages in research on wealth inequality, and especially the role of housing and public policy. Sun is an urban economist and economic historian who is engaged in novel data construction efforts to study the trajectories of housing inequality and social mobility over centuries; Sun implements big data and machine learning and GIS technologies to study issues of urban development, housing, and inequality in the United States. For example, Sun uses machine learning to analyze decades of archival records from New York City, shedding light on the links between urban infrastructure investment, land use policy, and inequality.
