Speaker Biographies

Rachel Kidman, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family, Population and Preventive Medicine and Core Faculty in the Program in Public Health at Stony Brook University. She is a social epidemiologist whose work focuses on children and youth whose lives have been affected by HIV/AIDS, violence, or other adversity. She currently directs studies of Within the Malawi Longitudinal Study of Families and Health, she leads research examining the role of childhood adversities on the emergence of HIV risks among adolescents. She also directs a study to estimate the impact of violence on HIV transmission using mobile diaries among HIV-infected and non-infected male adolescents in Soweto, South Africa.
